14th Amendment "Conversatorio"

Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood, U.S. Magistrate Judge Joaquin V.E. Manibusan, Jr. are pleased to announce that in celebration of 2017 Law Week, the court will be hosting a “Conversatorio” or panel discussion on the 14th Amendment at the courthouse on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.  The theme of this event and of Law Week this year is, “The Fourteenth Amendment:  Transforming American Democracy.”
The panel, moderated by Attorney Minakshi Hemlani, will consist of attorney and former Guam Senator Robert Klitzkie, Attorney Ignacio Aguigui, and former Congressman and current President of the University of Guam, Dr. Robert Underwood.  The invited audience will be comprised of students from the University of Guam, Guam Community College, and members of the Guam Youth Congress.
The discussion will center on the history of the 14th Amendment and its clauses, especially the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses.  The panelists will also provide their perspectives on the applicability of this constitutional amendment to Guam.  
The panel discussion will commence at 10:00 a.m., conclude at approximately 11:30 a.m., and be followed by a light merienda for the guests.
