The daily juror attendance fee will increase to $50, effective May 7, 2018.
On March 23, 2018, the President signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018, a 12-bill omnibus spending measure that funds the federal government for FY 2018, including the Judiciary. This bill includes the funding and legislative language needed to implement the requested $10 increase in the juror daily attendance payment, from $40 to $50, the first increase since 1990. The new rate will take effect May 7, 2018.
Sections 1871(b)(2) and (3) of the Jury Act remain unchanged. As a result, petit jurors required to attend more than ten days hearing one case, and grand jurors required to attend more than forty-five days of actual service, may be paid in the discretion of the trial judge, or the district judge in charge of the particular grand jury, an additional fee, not exceeding $10 more than the attendance fee for each additional day of service.
