Juror Daily Attendance Fees to Increase, Effective May 7, 2018

On March 23, 2018, the President signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018, a 12-bill omnibus spending measure that funds the federal government for FY 2018, including the Judiciary.  This bill includes the funding and legislative language needed to implement the requested $10 increase in the juror daily attendance payment, from $40 to $50, the first increase since 1990. The new rate will take effect May 7, 2018.

Bankruptcy Filings Holding Steady

Chapter 13 filings increased and Chapter 7 filings decreased, but the total number of filings over that period were consistent with past years.

  • Chapter 7: Liquidation Under the Bankruptcy Code. This chapter of the Bankruptcy Code provides for "liquidation" - the sale of a debtor's nonexempt property and the distribution of the proceeds to creditors.
